Abroad

Entry rules by country.

  • Vietnam

    Indian passport holders are not visa-exempt for Vietnam and need an e-visa before travel, valid up to 90 days. Apply only on the national portal; other sites are not official.

  • Bali, Indonesia

    Apply online for Indonesia’s electronic Visa on Arrival: 30 days, extendable once by 30 days, plus Bali’s separate tourist levy paid through the Love Bali portal. Your passport must be valid for six months from arrival.

  • Thailand

    Indian passport holders currently have a 30-day visa exemption for tourism, in effect from 15 September 2026. You must also file the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card online within 72 hours of arrival.

  • Singapore

    A visa is required before travel; there is no visa on arrival for Indian passport holders. Apply online through ICA’s e-visa system before you fly.

  • Malaysia

    Visa-exempt for tourist visits of up to 30 days, extended through 31 December 2026. File the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online before you arrive.

  • The UAE

    Indian passport holders need a UAE visa before travel. Holders of a valid US visa or Green Card, or a UK or EU residence visa, can get a 14-day visa on arrival, extendable once.

  • Azerbaijan

    Apply for an e-visa on the official ASAN Visa portal before travel: single entry, valid 90 days from issue, for a stay of up to 30 days.

  • Kazakhstan

    Indian citizens can enter visa-free for up to 14 continuous days per visit, capped at 42 days within any rolling 180-day period, under Government Decree 464.

  • Hong Kong

    Complete the free Pre-Arrival Registration online before you travel; it is valid six months and allows multiple visa-free visits of up to 14 days each.

  • Nepal

    No visa is needed. Carry a valid Indian passport or the original Election Commission of India voter ID card with photograph; Aadhaar and other documents are not accepted.

  • Sri Lanka

    Indian citizens can get a Sri Lanka tourist ETA free of charge for a 30-day stay. Apply only on the official portal; other “Sri Lanka visa” sites charge an unnecessary fee.

  • Bhutan

    No visa is needed; Indian nationals apply for an entry permit online with a valid passport or voter ID card, and pay a Sustainable Development Fee of ₹1,200 per person per night.

  • Switzerland (Schengen)

    India is not visa-exempt for Switzerland; apply for a Schengen visa through VFS Global well before travel, with biometrics and travel insurance of at least €30,000 cover.

  • Andaman & Nicobar Islands

    Indian citizens need no permit to visit; only foreign nationals require a Restricted Area Permit. Tribal reserve areas stay off-limits to everyone.

  • Ladakh

    Indian visitors pay Ladakh’s one-time environment fee plus a daily wildlife conservation fee online instead of taking an Inner Line Permit. Carry the receipt.

  • Meghalaya

    No Inner Line Permit is required for Meghalaya. A valid photo ID such as Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or voter ID is enough.

  • Lakshadweep (Agatti Island)

    Every visitor, including Indian citizens, needs an entry permit from the Lakshadweep Administration before travelling; apply online at least 14 days ahead.

Money

Taxes on a package.

  • TCS on overseas packages

    From 1 April 2026 an overseas tour package attracts a flat 2% Tax Collected at Source, with no minimum amount. It is a credit against your income tax, not an extra charge: claim it when you file.

  • GST on tour packages

    Tour operator services are taxed at 5% GST on the package value, without input tax credit.
